2019 CSA Week 3

Hey folks,

I’m going to keep this one short and unsweetened so I can get to bed and not sleep through my alarm clock again tomorrow (I live on the farm and I have never beaten Connor into the garden in the AM).  And yes, there’s radishes again this week , but this time you have to try roasting them.  I gave it a shot last week and was very pleasantly surprised by the results.  Roasted radishes are very un-radishey. This week you’ll get:
-Beets
-radishes
-green onions (much bigger this time, might come with a tiny onion)
-spinach
-dill
-lettuce mix
And here’s some things you could do with it.

CSA Packaging

After a few questions about our packaging, we wanted to let folks know that all our packaging is compostable, except rubber bands.

We do accept returned rubber bands as they can be sanitized and reused until the day they snap.

We cannot reuse the compostable packaging, if you don’t have a compost of your own or simply don’t like the trashy aesthetic that compostable packaging can sometimes cause, we will take it back to our compost pile.

Roasted Radishes

By Natural Collective CSA

Roasted radishes have a flavour similar to brussel sprouts or other roasted brassicas. This recipe is a nice way to bring out this other flavour of the radish.

1 bunch Raxe Radishes, topped and washed

1 splash olive oil

Salt and pepper to taste

Roast on bbq at medium heat for 15-20 min. Or on a pan in the oven @ 350F for 15-20 mins

Raw Beet Salad with Dill Dressing

By Natural Collective CSA

1 bunch of beets with beet greens

2 green onions, washed and chopped

2 Tbsp dill, finely chopped

3 Tbsp olive oil

3 Tbsp balsamic vinegar (or vinegar/acid of your choice)

1/2 tsp salt

1/4 tsp pepper

Top and tip beets, saving tops for later. Wash and grate beets (this might get messy!) into a bowl. Wash and tear beet greens into desired bite size, add to bowl (you may wish to remove the stems from the greens). Add green onions, dill, olive oil, balsamic vinegar, salt, and pepper. Toss and serve.  To bulk up the salad, add lettuce mix or spinach or both!
